WILDLIFE UNCOVERED!
The City of South Lake Tahoe Department of Parks and Recreation's, Explore Tahoe: An Urban Trailhead and the Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care Center are providing an elementary school outreach program called Wildlife Uncovered to the local community. Brooks Hill from Explore Tahoe and Cheryl Milham from the Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care Center have partnered together to bring a fun, exciting and educational program for children in grades 1-4. This interpretive program provides students with valuable information about local Lake Tahoe wildlife. Students explore the skulls and pelts from eight different wild animals and use their observation skills to learn and interpret the differences and similarities between them. Included in the program are informative posters reflecting the various physical characteristics, diet and habitat of each animal as well as scat samples for comparison! The students use their reasoning skills to figure out the difference between carnivores, herbivores and omnivores while comparing and contrast the dentition of each animal. Students observe the difference in colors, coat thickness and texture of each animal pelt and develop conclusions about each species survives in the wild. Students are educated on the current status of each animal and learn what they can do individually to help improve their survival.Teachers are encouraged to contact Explore Tahoe to schedule their class today!
